Bathtub Refinishing FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
We put this section together to help answer the most common questions about bathtub refinishing, what to expect on service day, and how to get started.
Can I really see what my tub will look like before I book?
Yes. Just text us a photo of your bathtub and we’ll send you a realistic before-and-after transformation along with your exact price. No guessing, no surprises — you’ll know exactly what you’re getting before you schedule.
How much does bathtub refinishing cost?
Most standard bathtubs start at $299, with final pricing typically ranging between $299–$449 depending on condition and repairs needed. We provide exact pricing upfront after reviewing your photo — no hidden fees and no surprise add-ons.
How long does the process take?
Most jobs are completed in just a few hours. Your tub will be ready to use again 24 hours after refinishing.
Why refinish instead of replacing my tub?
Refinishing gives you the look of a brand-new tub at a fraction of the cost — without demolition, plumbing work, or days of disruption. Most replacements cost thousands, while refinishing delivers a like-new finish in a single day.
How do I get started?
Just text us a photo of your tub. We’ll send your transformation and quote, then you can choose a date that works for you. No in-home estimate is needed.
I have pets in the home. Will this affect them?
We recommend all pets be moved outside for the actual spraying part of the job, or for the final hour of our visit. Although not harmful, fumes can make cats and dogs a little lethargic and they could lose their appetite for the remainder of the day. Since 2011, we have never had an incident where a homeowner’s pet got sick.
I am pregnant or have newborns or infants in the home. Is it safe?
No. We never recommend a pregnant woman or a newborn baby be in the home during the refinishing process or until 24 hours after a tub has been refinished.
I am elderly or have medical problems. Can I stay?
We generally ask all customers to step outside if they smell any fumes while we are spraying. This usually takes about 45 minutes and may linger briefly after we finish.
Will my house smell like it was painted?
We use an industrial fume extraction system that evacuates airborne fumes out the nearest window. As long as the bathroom door stays closed overnight, you generally should not notice a smell in the home after about an hour. In a worst-case scenario, opening the home and airing it out for a few minutes typically clears any lingering smell.
When can I use the bathtub again?
24 hours after refinishing. The bathtub will be dry to the touch in several hours, but it takes a full 24 hours for the coating to cure and become waterproof.
What colors are available?
We can custom order nearly any color from the Sherwin-Williams Master Color Chip catalog. From subtle to bold, there are plenty of options available.
What warranty do you offer?
Warranty coverage depends on the surface and project conditions. You can link this answer to your Bathtub Pros Care & Warranty page for the full details.
How do I clean my new tub, tile, or counter?
We recommend using Dawn dish soap or Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Cleaner. For full care instructions, link this answer to your Bathtub Pros Care & Warranty page.
How long will my refinished tub last?
A professionally refinished bathtub should last well over 15 years when the recommended care instructions are followed.
Can you fix rust damage?
Yes and no. If the rust is just beginning and can be completely eliminated with acid treatment, then yes. If the rust has begun to flake the area or has created a hole around the overflow drain, we can repair it cosmetically, but it may come back over time. Rust repair is not covered under warranty.
I just remodeled. Are you going to make a mess?
Absolutely not. We generally leave our work areas cleaner than when we arrived. We use professional masking materials to protect counters, toilets, flooring, and surrounding wall areas, then remove everything upon completion.
Will the tub bottom be slippery?
Your newly refinished bathtub will be very smooth. Like any smooth surface, it can be slippery. We offer an anti-slip additive for the tub bottom, especially for rental units and homes with elderly residents.
I am remodeling or retiling. When should I schedule my tub?
We always want to be the last contractor in the room. Since we are dealing with a fine finish, bathtub refinishing should generally be scheduled after all other trades have completed their work.
Do you remove drains or install new handles?
In the state of Florida, only a licensed plumber can remove drains or install new valves and trim kits. For your protection, always use a properly licensed professional for that work.
How do I pay?
Payment is due upon completion of the work. We can send your invoice while the technician finishes final touchups and wraps up the job. Payment can be made online by credit card or check.
